Abstract
The author attempts to define `life-long learning´ and to identify the elements that make up its successful realization. It is concluded that several elements must come together for life-long learning to succeed. Students must want (i.e., choose) to learn, thus making the learning proactive and self-initiated. Such learning could be in addition to regular coursework. Interaction amongst peers would make for an open exchange in communication. Such learning should include some kind of updating (continuing education or keeping up with state-of-the-art) as well as specific problem-solving skills or creativity strengthening
