Abstract
The author describes how he has woven the amateur radio hobby into the electrical engineering design curriculum at Morgan State University. He notes that students understand, relate to, and enjoy the technical aspects of design projects which are rooted in amateur radio. The hobby is very broad and one can find practical applications of virtually every concept which is taught at the undergraduate level. Amateur radio has proven to be an excellent arena for teaching design. The author also provides guidance on how to teach a minicourse to prepare students for the Federal Communications Commission examinations to obtain their Technician Class license
