Abstract :
Summary form only given.Subject to external optical feedback, a laser diode biased near threshold can enter in the low-frequency fluctuations (LFF) regime that is characterized by sudden drop-outs followed by gradual, stepwise, recoveries of the laser mean intensity. We investigate numerically the intensity statistics of a laser diode in the LFF regime by using a multimode extension of the Lang-Kobayashi equations in which the spontaneous emission noise is taken into account.
