Abstract
The author discusses the University Manufacturing Technology Center (UMTC) and how it can provide support for academic programs in engineering and engineering technology, as well as support for local manufacturing industry. It is suggested that the best means for providing that support is through the concept of a `full-service´ UMTC. The services that should make up this type of UMTC are discussed in addition to methods for delivery of the services. Finally, the rationale for providing the services and the benefits to be derived by the university and industry are discussed
