Abstract :
A new leaky surface wave is described, which propagates along the surface, with a phase velocity higher than that of the ordinary leaky surface waves, radiating two kinds of shear wave into the solid. Most surface components of the new wave consist of a longitudinal wave term and an electromagnetic wave term, and therefore the new wave is called the longitudinal leaky surface wave. The propagation properties of the longitudinal leaky surface wave on lithium tetraborate are investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is found that the (011) cut of lithium tetraborate is desirable for higher frequency SAW devices
