Abstract :
Summary form only given. Over the past few years, high photosensitivity of chalcogenide glasses (ChG) has provided several applications in the field of optical communication. Among photosensitive effects, photodarkening and photoexpansion have been extensively studied. The chemical and structural reasons for such changes are the subject of current investigations within our group. Giant photoexpansion (2-5%) in As/sub 2/S/sub 3/ glass (E/sub g//spl sim/2.35 eV), revealed surface expansions almost 10 times greater than that observed by conventional photoexpansion.
