  • Abstract
Both the reflection and the refraction of harmonic inhomogeneous plane waves on a fluid/anisotropic solid interface are described in the framework of linear acoustics. The reflection coefficient is obtained and discussed for different heterogeneity of the incident wave. As for the isotropic case, recently treated, the most significant differences between homogeneous and inhomogeneous incident waves occur at both positive and negative Rayleigh angles. The Rayleigh angle dip phenomenon is visible at the positive Rayleigh angle. At the negative Rayleigh angle this dip is converted into peak, i.e., the reflection coefficient is greater than unity. However, the experimental investigation on a carbon-epoxy sample, does not reveal this peculiar behavior. Damping and high anisotropy of the material explain the phenomenon observed near the Rayleigh angle
