Abstract :
Summary form only given. Laser radiation of high power and good beam quality in the 1.44-/spl mu/m wavelength range is required for medical applications in surgery. Continuous wave laser output of up to 4.9 W at 1.44 /spl mu/m was demonstrated recently from a longitudinally diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser. We report, to our knowledge, on the first passively Q-switched diode-pumped 1.44-/spl mu/m Nd:YAG laser using a V:YAG saturable absorber.
