Abstract :
Summary form only given. We are developing a high energy per pulse, high power Cr:LiSrAlF/sub 6/ laser for future use as an illuminator as part of an unconventional imaging system. This device is required to produce three, 30-J beams with excellent beam quality (<1.5 XDL) operating at a wavelength that matches the Cs atomic filter line (852 nm) and with a bandwidth close to the atomic filter bandwidth of 2 GHz. The device is to operate at 5 Hz. A MOPA configuration will be employed with the output of the oscillator-preamplifier subsystems injecting three, multistage amplifier chains.
