Abstract :
This paper is based on a project undertaken by the University of Reading with BAA plc to investigate the application of knowledge based engineering to airport planning, and in addition to test the concept of adapting a proven advanced manufacturing technique to construction. The paper explains the background of the project drawing on examples from other industries. The goals of the project for BAA are outlined and the success and future direction of this work within the company are discussed
