Abstract :
The authors examine several head-of-line selection schemes by means of computer simulation. The problem of the unfair allocation of the switching bandwidth to the input ports of an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switching system is investigated. A generic nonblocking packet switch is assumed. The switching fabric has input and output buffers and employs a backpressure mechanism to prevent output buffer overflow. The performance of these schemes under random and bursty traffic is evaluated
