Abstract :
Bit-interleaved coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with iterative decoding (BI-COFDM-ID) is an attractive method to achieve diversity in multipath fading channels due to its spectral efficiency, superior error performance and low receiver complexity. A limitation of OFDM systems is the high peak-to-average ratio (PAR) of the transmitted signal, which reduces the efficiency of the power amplifier. This paper investigates the selected mapping method (SLM) for PAR reduction of BI-COFDM-ID. It is shown that, while maintaining the error performance, applying SLM substantially reduces the PAR with a minimal increase in receiver complexity.
