Abstract :
In this paper, a technology and market disruption is illustrated through an example case. Learning options thinking is suggested as a management model as well as mathematical tool to improve the strategic decision making, and the discernment for disruptions in the current competitive environment is discussed. Although no deterministic analytical methods cannot be developed to safeguard from unexpected competitor movements or guarantee own success, certain models to analyze the situation and guide the learning, preparation and development investments can, however, be elaborated. Real options, as being based on mathematical handling of uncertainty and its economic implications, give better means to cope with these challenges than the deterministic ideal of planning, utilizing for example straight forward cash flow analyses for different alternatives. This is especially the case in the current complex environment in the converging ICT and media fields concealing further potential disruptions.
