Abstract :
This paper presents new Rate Distortion Optimization (RDO) algorithm and its implementation for JPEG2000. The proposed algorithm simplifies the computational complexity of the RDO and detects Optimal Truncation (OT) point for rate control in parallel with bit-plane coding. It is easy to implement and implemented RDO module brings small hardware cost with slight clock frequency degradation. Experimental results showed that proposed algorithm provides close compression rates with the targets and obtained PSNR values are comparable with the performance of the former designs.
