Abstract
In high-speed, multimode-fiber-based data-communication applications, modal dispersion is often the performance-limiting factor. Traditionally, system-level simulations neglect spatial effects for computational efficiency while device-level tools involve computations too complex to perform system-level analysis. In this paper, we have combined the features of both system and device simulation to demonstrate an integrated CAD simulation environment that can be used not only to calculate modal delays in multimode fibers but also to analyze their impact on 10 Gb/s system-level performance.
