Abstract
A sparse iterative method for solving electromagnetic problems has been implemented in an object-oriented version of NEC. The SIM is based on the generation of a sparse matrix which is factored and subsequently used in an iterative solution of a matrix equation. The paper investigates three methods of filling the sparse matrix. The three methods are compared by investigating the effect they have on the density of the sparse matrix and the number of iterations required to converge to a solution. It also reports on the use of an extrapolation technique in order to reduce the iteration count in the solution of the matrix equation.<>
