Abstract
Communication between two arrays illuminating a random medium is discussed in terms of the correlation between the antenna elements. The high antenna gains achievable for correlated elements are contrasted with the higher spectral efficiencies obtained through creation of parallel channels in the random medium. Transmit-receive diversity and capacity is discussed for the situations where the channel is known at the transmitter and where it is unknown
