Abstract :
We consider a frequency-hopped spread spectrum multiple-access communication system employing a Reed-Solomon code and nonorthogonal binary FSK modulation in a Rayleigh fading channel. We examine the optimal tone spacing of BFSK signals that maximizes the average number of successfully transmitted information bits per unit time per unit bandwidth (called normalized throughput). The tradeoff among tone spacing, code rate and processing gain in maximizing the normalized throughput is investigated under the constraint of fixed bandwidth
