Abstract :
The Copernican Cinc Command Complex (CCC) is one of the pillars constituting Copernicus - a new C4I architecture being developed by the US Navy. The CCC comprises a large number of shore-based command centers and staff organizations, each of which is associated with one or more local area networks (LANs) and metropolitan area networks (MANs). The MANs/LANs form a hierarchical internetwork. The authors present a similar distributed/hierarchical CCC management structure in which each major management center controls an individual LAN or MAN, or a special LAN/MAN grouping. To meet Copernicus requirements, each management center is configured by adding mission-specific application software to a COTS generic Network Management Platform (NMP). The mission-specific applications will include standards-based COTS element managers and veneer application programs. Selection of these network management application programs will be based on migration to emerging national, international standards and profiles such as OSI Network Management Standards and Government Network Management Profiles (GNMP)
