Abstract
One of the lessons learned during Desert Shield and Desert Storm is that better multimedia services (voice, video, and data) are needed in support of an initial deployment. The advantages of wireless communications, coupled with the use of a single multimedia distribution system, can reduce the total setup time needed to provide these services to users at an initially deployed location. The authors describe a tactical deployable wireless multimedia local area network (LAN) architecture to support initial communications requirements. Using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products to implement this architecture at minimum cost, a set of small, easily packaged communications devices can be tailored as needed for each deployed location
