Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to detect the input condition and technical efficiency of grape production in China, and compare the production condition between Open-field Cultivation and Protected Cultivation using the frontier approach. The results show the mean technical efficiency is about 0.79 suggesting that 0.21 of the potential production is lost in Chinese grape production. Meanwhile, the technical efficiency under Protected Cultivation is higher than that of the other one. Among the inputs, materials and labor have a significant effect on the output under Open field Cultivation as the same as the costs of vineyard building and materials except fertilizer to the Protected Cultivation.
