Abstract
System Dynamics is an approach with a long tradition used for modelling and simulation of complex system. Early, a conceptual modelling language was applied to bridge the dasialinguistic gappsila between the natural language of the model users and the targeted simulation language. Despite the maturity of the modelling approach, up to today no linguistic definitions (linguistic metamodel) exists for the used languages, resulting in non complying language extensions and the lack of reasonable combination with other modelling languages, e.g. for use in Business Intelligence Systems. This paper aims at the development of a linguistic definition of the language used in SD modelling in terms of a linguistic metamodel. Further, the metamodel based extension and combination of modelling languages is demonstrated by relating the SD language to multidimensional data modelling. Finally, an application example from the domain of performance measurement is given to illustrate the findings.
