  • Abstract
This paper investigates how the pulse width modulation (PWM) algorithm can be adapted in order to implement online system identification using pseudorandom binary sequences (PRBS) for condition monitoring and control, with particular reference to induction motors. Two techniques for PRBS implementation using a VSI are identified and discussed. Detailed simulation results are compared with practical PRBS responses in order to show the advantages and disadvantages of each implementation technique. Model parameters of a 3 kW induction motor with a locked rotor and at rated speed are estimated and compared with nominal values.
