Abstract
Summary form only given. There is great interest in driving short-wavelength lasers by optical field ionization (OFI), and both recombination lasers and collisional. Lasers have been demonstrated with this approach. To date OFI-driven lasers have only operated on transitions between valance levels, but in order to generate shorter wavelengths it would be advantageous to operate on inner-shell transitions.
