Abstract
This paper describes a synchronising and scheduling system for wide area synchronised data acquisition applications and fault location in power systems, using Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The system hardware features a commercial GPS receiver, serial communications link for a host computer, and a dedicated programmable real time clock with programmable trigger features. Details are given of the design and implementation of these features using programmable logic array (PLA) technology.
