Abstract :
The computer simulated heave response of a drill ship deploying a drill string in regular waves is examined. The sensitivity of the heave response predictions to a variety of hydrodynamic and numerical modeling approximations are presented and briefly discussed. The results illustrate the dominance of the structural damping and sensitivity of the response predictions to increasing water depth.
