Abstract
Permanent Magnet Transverse Flux Machines (PMTFM) can achieve higher torque densities than conventional Permanent Magnet Longitudinal Flux Machines (PMLFM). Currently, PMTFMs are mostly designed as low-speed Torque-, Traction- or Direct- Drives. Its potential for use as a high speed servo gear motor for industrial robots, production lines etc. has not been considered in detail till now. The challenge is to find a PMTFM design that can fulfill the related requirements and will remain mechanically simple at the same time. The paper illustrates the combination of numerical, analytical and empirical designing methods to reach this aim.
