Abstract
Summary form only given. In multicore fibers, single mode rare-earth doped waveguides (micro cores) are placed on a ring inside a large pumpcore. Therefore, the absorption length for the pump radiation can be dramatically reduced. To increase the on-axis irradiation, phase-coupling between the individual micro cores has to be established. One possibility to arrange phase-coupling is the employment of self-reproduction of the near-field distribution by interference after a certain distance of free space propagation. This self-reproduction is called Talbot effect and was investigated and applied to different types of laser-arrays.
