Abstract
A robust receiver is proposed for time-hopping (TH) pulse position modulation (PPM) impulse radio system and frequency-selective ultra wide-band (UWB) channels, which aims to remove large amplitudes due to impulsive noise by using a nonlinearity for thresholding. Proposed robust receiver is composed of a rake receiver used for the collection of the signal energy, which is dispersed over a large number of paths as a result of the wide bandwidth of the channel. Before the paths are combined with maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme, they are passed through the nonlinearity. The robust receiver so designed is shown to outperform the conventional linear rake receiver with only matched filters at its fingers.
