Abstract
Theoretical and experimental results illustrating the design of an interstitial antenna array for 915-MHz microwave hyperthermia are presented. Desktop computer programs have been developed to optimize the phased antenna array in order to obtain the most extended heating patterns. The possibility of obtaining a wider heating pattern (obtained from the solution of the bioheat transfer equation) by playing on the feeding current phase value and the periodicity of the rotation of the phase on each antenna is shown. The possibility of using the pattern reconstruction as a dosimetry software in clinical situations is discussed.<>
