  • Abstract
In today´s diving operations, it is imperative to have good, reliable communications between the divers and the surface tenders. HydroCom provides this reliability in a small, high quality system. HydroCom allows round-robin (full duplex) communications among three divers and a surface tender, without the need for a press-to-talk function. With the addition of a helium speech unscrambler (HSU) printed circuit board, HydroCom provides quality communications in a helium environment. HydroCom was designed to be a highly versatile system. It can operate on 115 Vac or 230 Vac, 12 volt dc, or an internal, rechargeable battery. The system is easy to operate and can be run by a single tender. Its small size allows it to be easily transported in its own ruggedized container. The HydroCom is splashproof allowing it to be operated in a small or open vessel. Diver safety was the prime design criterion for HydroCom. A GFI and isolation transformer are used to keep high voltage away from the divers. Input and output audio transformers isolate the divers´ cables from power equipment. HydroCom reduces dive time and improves diver efficiency by providing high quality communications. This improved performance benefits the operator by reducing expenses while improving safety for the divers.
