Abstract :
Summary form only given. It has been demonstrated both by numerical simulation and experiment that optical TDM transmission at 40 Gbit/s over a distance of 560 km is realizable with sufficient system Q performance. The major limiting factor is fiber dispersion, whereas the impact of modulational instability (MI) may be minimized by operating in the normal dispersion regime. The signal wavelength tolerance of 3 nm is well within the wavelength accuracy of present day laser technology.
