Abstract
Concentrations of subaqueous minerals and materials within the jurisdiction of Virginia may prove important to the future economy of the state. Institutional arrangements, policies, laws, regulations, and the status of research affecting subaqueous lands require re-examination. Subaqueous mining must be carefully balanced with other uses of the marine environment. The special problems and management needs associated with the subaqueous lands of Virginia should be carefully considered in the development of laws and regulations governing subaqueous mining.
