Abstract
Summary form only given. Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission tests have been performed on recently installed portions of the Trans-Pacific Cable (TPC-5) and Trans-Atlantic Cable (TAT-12) systems to determine the upgrade capability of the undersea plant for each system. Tests were performed at various transmission rates up to 30 Gbit/s and at distances up to 16800 km.
