Abstract
Gas-filled resonators are considered the must accurate tool for precision measurement of speed of sound in gases. In particular spherical resonators facilitate detailed calculations of the energy losses which must be taken into account for the interpretation of experimental results. Speed of sound data obtained as a function of pressure along an isotherm allow determining perfect-gas properties, as the molar heat capacities, and the coefficient of a virial equation of state. The paper describes the experimental apparatus recently set-up at IEN and reports the first results of speed of sound in argon
