Abstract
In this paper, the authors studied the magnetic properties of ultra thin Ni films grown onto different GaAs(001) surfaces. The films were deposited at room temperature by ultra high vacuum-electron beam evaporation method and magnetic properties were investigated using magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) measurement. Results showed that substrate surface can have significant bearing on the magnetic coercivities of the films grown upon them. Also, the Ni films grown upon different surfaces exhibit very different magnetic anisotropies.
