Abstract :
Water quality monitoring studies typically include chemical parameters such as nutrients. Detection limits, precision and accuracy in the chemical analysis of these parameters can have a major impact upon data analysis and tests of hypotheses posed by monitoring studies. The analytical techniques used to measure these chemical parameters, however often do not receive the same scrutiny applied in the selection of other study design elements. Examples from actual monitoring programs demonstrate the importance of selecting appropriate chemical analysis strategies.
