Abstract
Summary form only given. In a cascaded configuration, the quadratic nonlinear interaction can be used to induce a change in the effective index of refraction of a nonlinear material. When this change is induced within a microcavity the enhanced interaction within the structure may lead to a large change in the transmission or reflection properties of that material. The use of the intrinsically fast quadratic nonlinear interaction within a microcavity allows for a change in transmission or reflection that is only limited by the duration of the pulse. The transmission changes showed by our experiment could be increased up to almost 100 percent change and at the same time the input phase dependence can be largely reduced.
