Abstract :
Let ( X_{1},Y_{1}) ..... (X_{p}, Y_{p} ) be independent random vectors. This paper is concerned with the estimation of E(X_{1}|X_{1} > 0)/E(Y_{1}|Y_{1} > 0 ). This problem arises naturally in comparing the fishing ability of different vessels. In this case ( X_{i},Y_{i} ) denote the catch per tow of the two vessels at the site i or time i. Due to the highly skewed nature of the distributions of the catches the difference of the average means would not give a realistic idea of the fishing power of the vessels.
