Abstract
The functional representative rule model proposed by Takagi and Sugeno (1983, 1985) allows us analytically to describe the input-output relation of a fuzzy system or fuzzy controller. This model has been widely used in various applications. In this paper we try to analyze such type of fuzzy system to discover how the membership functions, the fuzzy rules and the inference operation influence the system´s behavior. It is shown that the so-called frame of the fuzzy system is independent from the inference methods, and its shape is determined by the shape of the input membership functions and the representative function of the fuzzy rules. The contribution of the representative function of the fuzzy rules can be implemented by the membership functions, this can help simplify the design of the fuzzy system
