Abstract :
The paper describes a current meter which uses the drag-induced tilt of its suspended housing as a measure of current. It goes on to show that this design principle leads to moorings which require less flotation and lighter anchors. The debate on the relative merits of semiconductor memory versus magnetic tape for long term data storage is reviewed. For many applications tape is still the preferred medium. The use of the microprocessor to improve sensor calibration and to compress data is described.
