Abstract :
The authors survey the current state of knowledge-based and database management systems and suggest possible research directions for their integration into a knowledge-base management system. They define the requirements for the architecture and realization of such a system, and analyze methods for knowledge acquisition, knowledge verification, knowledge communication, configuration management, and knowledge processing. Several possible research strategies are analyzed: enhancements of existing systems, coupling of independent systems, and technology integration to develop a new class of systems
