Abstract :
Monolithic diode arrays have been demonstrated as millimeter-wave quasi-optical beam control devices. At UCLA, arrays of 4000-15,000 operational diodes have achieved the functions of electronically-controlled beam switching, beam modulation, beam polarization, beam steering, and beam focusing. New high performance beam control arrays are under development. Through the use of low loss coplanar waveguide bias lines and improved processing techniques, wide bandwidth switching arrays and narrow bandwidth beam steering/focusing arrays with modulation rates in excess of 1 GHz are predicted. Recently, beam control arrays with monolithically integrated Schottky-barrier photodiodes have been fabricated which allow optical beam control
