Abstract :
This paper presents the possible improvements of voltage quality in connection of a wind farm to transmission network using VSC-HVDC (Voltage source converter high voltage direct current) link. For a 80 MW wind farm consisting of 40 individual 2 MW doubly fed induction generators, the main influence of voltage fluctuation caused by the wind farm integration is analyzed. The use of a reactive controller to alleviate voltage fluctuation is discussed. The connection method and control strategy of the system is verified by simulation experiment with PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results show that the voltage at the transmission network terminal should be re-established with minimized voltage losses after the clearance of one end faults, which confirm the connection method and the control strategy.
