Abstract :
An eigenbeam method for estimating the DOAs of multiple plane wave sources using linear array is presented. This method exploits the skew-symmetric property of the eigenvectors corresponding to the even eigenvalues of a symmetric Toeplitz matrix, Q which is basically formed by the steering vector of a linear array. The transformation matrix consists of all the even eigenvectors and reduces the adaptive size of the correlation matrix to half the full size before decomposition. A phase-shifting matrix is also incorporated in the structure for breaking up the skew-symmetric property of the even eigenvectors. This has the effect of eliminating the image nulls formed in the spatial spectrum and hence it offers a more efficient way of estimating the DOAs
