Abstract
The subscriber access network is an essential part of the B-ISDN, which concentrates and distributes the ATM traffic between end user and the ATM transport network. It is desirable for the ATM access networks to take charge of gathering and processing of the traffic, together with the network intelligence, to reduce the burden of the local exchange. We propose a system called DANS for the subscriber access network. It is located between the SB/TB and VB interfaces in the B-ISDN customer access model. We consider a star-ring-star topology for a reliable network construction and an efficient distributed service. We design the management information model for its operations and management functions. We employ the concept of the TMN layered functional hierarchy to describe the operations and management functions for the proposed system
