A brief overview is presented of a narrowband frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) cellular system for the USA which uses 10-kHz voice channel spacing. The system combines low-bit-rate signaling with narrowband FM utilizing evolutionary subscriber equipment. Field trials and validation testing are currently underway
