Abstract
This paper analyzes the performance of BPSK in the presence of intersymbol interference (ISI), slowly fading channel and additive white gaussian noise (AWGN). Only coherent detection of BPSK signal is considered. It is shown that the bit error rate (BER) performance in the presence of ISI, slowly fading channel and AWGN can be calculated by using series expression for the characteristic function of the sufficient statistic. Furthermore, it is also shown that the BER performance can be approximated using numerical quadrature of a Laplace inversion integral along a contour in the complex plane passing through a saddlepoint of the integrand
