Abstract :
This paper shows a technique for analysing radio propagation characteristics at the side of a building. In a microcell or a picocell a base station antenna can be mounted on the wall of a building. A method for predicting the field strength in a particular zone of the cell, such as the side of a building, is presented. This method uses a ray tracing technique with consideration of the vertical and horizontal reflection characteristics. The proposed modeling method is verified by measuring the path loss (at 1.7-1.8 GHz) at close range. This model can be used to decide an efficient coverage area for a microcell or a picocell
