Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have performed a series of measurements of absorption and wave mixing with cold Rb atoms contained in a magneto-optical trap (MOT). Contrary to several previous experiments our measurements were taken without switching off the trapping /spl sigma//sup +/-/spl sigma//sup -/ beams, and thus allow for a direct probing of MOT conditions.
